A strong core helps maintain your balance, maintains awkward movement and prevents unwanted strains. They also allow your body to transfer force through your muscles instead of your spine which also significantly helps to reduce back pain.
Pilates for your lower back pain can help to reduce any back pain you may suffer with. This is because Pilates is a great way to improve your posture, balance and spine alignment, helping you to fix any poor movement patterns, resulting in less lower back pain. Remember these kinds of improvements don’t just happen straight away, they have to be maintained over a long period of time.
If you perform any exercises incorrectly you could end up worsening your back pain. This is why it is much more beneficial and safer to attend a Pilates studio or have live training from a Pilates teacher who can correct your form. If you use Online or YouTube videos, you risk completing the exercises incorrectly. What’s more, you may end up doing exercises that are not right for you, a Pilates teacher will be able to tailor movements to best suit your needs.
There is also the risk of possibly overdoing it during your exercises, keeping your progress gradual can help reduce this risk. More advanced exercise may put too much strain on your back, which is why we recommend getting an expert Pilates teacher who can advise you.
If you really want to improve your back pain, our Pilates retreat is the perfect place to do so. Reformer Retreats offer luxury UK based weekend retreats dedicated to improving your physical and mental wellbeing. There’s a good chance you have heard of Pilates before, but a form of Pilates you might not have heard of is ‘Reformer Pilates’. You might be wondering ‘what is reformer Pilates’ and if you are, you have come to the right place. In this article we are going to explain more about the reformer and reformer Pilates including the benefits of using one.
Reformer Pilates is Pilates exercise done using a reformer machine. This piece of equipment is likened to a bed with springs, a sliding carriage, ropes and pulleys. We admit, this apparatus can appear somewhat intimidating at first glance, but once you get to grips with it, it really is a great piece of Pilates equipment.
Originally, the reformer was used to break down the flow of movements completed in mat work and to strengthen muscles. It was a key piece of equipment used during the rehabilitation process, and today it is still an incredibly popular piece of equipment due to its versatility and the benefits that come with using it.
So, what is Reformer Pilates? It is similar to mat Pilates, however it creates additional resistance to make Pilates movements more challenging and effective. Pilates has many benefits and Reformer Pilates is said to only enhance these benefits even further. The reformer uses resistance springs to create movement and align your body. It re-balances any imbalances in your body from from over use, under use and injury. The reformer does just that - it reforms your body, creating strong, lean and toned muscles.
Like any form of exercise, there are a number of benefits of taking part in Reformer Pilates. The reformer helps to develop a stronger core, whilst enabling proper muscle engagement which can help with back pain, hip pain, injury recovery and balance. Here are a list of some of the amazing benefits of using the reformer:
Hopefully we have answered the question ‘what is reformer Pilates’, if you want to find out more, why not get involved. Reformer retreats have created a luxury Pilates retreat experience like no other. Come and enjoy a weekend full of relaxation, reformer classes, meditation, spa treatments and more with Reformer Retreats. There are a number of benefits of attending one of our Pilates holidays- both for your physical and mental health. Here are some of the benefits of getting involved with Pilates:
It helps to reduce stress
Any form of exercise can help to reduce stress, however, Pilates is particularly good at reducing stress because of its focus on control of breath and the mind and body connection.
As you improve your mindfulness with Pilates, you are better able to regulate your nervous system. This gives you better control of your fight or flight response- thus overtime reducing stress.
It can relieve menopausal symptoms
Research shows that Pilates can relieve some symptoms of the menopause. This is said to be due to the fact that Pilates is proven to reduce stress on joints, enhances mood and improves sleep. All of this coincides with the relief of menopause symptoms. To find out more about the link between Pilates and the menopause we talk more about it here.
It improves your range of motion
Although Pilates is low impact, it is highly effective when it comes to improving your range of motion and flexibility. The emphasis on your power house (strong core) can help to reduce back and hip pain. It also focuses on correcting posture and proper alignment of the body's muscles and joints. By exercising these areas regularly during Pilates your range of motion should improve.
Other benefits:

Pilates is a disciplined form of exercise created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It involves a series of controlled movements that target all muscle groups and assist in improving posture, flexibility and functionality. Pilates also increases mindfulness and relaxation whilst reducing stress and anxiety. It does this because it has a strong focus on breathing and mind-body connection, one of the key principles of classical Pilates.
Today, there are a range of adaptations of Pilates offered at studios. Despite this, classical Pilates is still considered to be the truest practice. Moreover, classical Pilates teachers are required to complete rigorous training under teachers who are within the lineage of Joseph Pilates.
Classical Pilates is the original method of sequence work created by Joseph Pilates. It was designed so that the body can properly move through a full range of motion. The classical method has a focus on the 6 principles of Pilates which are:
The intention of classical Pilates is a full body workout for both the body and the mind. It focuses on strengthening the powerhouse (core) which helps to improve balance, support the spine and assist with the mobility of your spine. The Pilates movements created by Joseph Pilates were designed to challenge strength, stretch and stamina.
‘’In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see the difference and in 30 sessions you’ll have a whole new body’’
Joseph Pilates (1883-1967).
The wall tower is a modified version of the traditional Cadillac apparatus, rarely seen in studios outside of major cities like London. Working on the wall tower gives you access to resistance springs which help to strengthen and engage every part of your body. This means you can get the most out of your Pilates session. The classes are designed to be fun, energising that provide you with a full body workout that combines all aspects of Pilates. The wall tower helps to create a lean body with a better posture, better balance and perfect for those who fancy more of a challenge.
One piece of equipment that is incredibly popular in the world of Pilates is the classical reformer. It was designed by Joseph Pilates and resembles a bed-like structure with a carriage that moves backwards and forwards along tracks within a frame. There is also a set of springs and pulleys which create additional resistance during a reformer session. The reformer focuses on proper muscle engagement and core strength. You can learn more about the reformer in our previous article ‘What is Reformer Pilates?’.
Classical mat classes work through the 34 Pilates exercises put together by Joseph Pilates himself. The order was designed to allow you to get stronger, more flexible all whilst improving your stability. We make sure to follow the order each and every time as the theory behind it is that you achieve progression through a well balanced and challenging session. The great part about following the order is that over time you will get more familiar with each movement and therefore better and better every time you do it.
There are a wide range of benefits associated with Pilates. The more often you take part in Pilates exercise, the quicker you will see results. In order to achieve the best results, like anything, Pilates requires commitment and dedication. Here are some of the benefits you can expect from Pilates:
Whether you are new to Pilates or a Pilates pro, if you are interested in getting involved in classical Pilates or you just fancy deepening your understanding of it further, Reformer Retreats could be the answer you didn’t know you needed. We have put together a weekend dedicated to classical Pilates. The retreat includes Pilates retreat reformer sessions, mat classes and a range of other activities that help to challenge and inspire whilst promoting relaxation and wellbeing. All of the Pilates sessions are led by second generation, classically trained teachers who are passionate about passing on their knowledge and skills to attendees.
Menopause is the time that marks the end of your menstrual cycle. Although the process is completely natural, the side effects for some of us can be particularly unpleasant. Physical symptoms like hot flushes and sweats can be disruptive to your sleep, lower your energy levels and impact your mood. Whilst all of this can seem overwhelming, there are a variety of methods you can try out to alleviate these symptoms. In this article we are going to be exploring Pilates for menopause relief.
It's no surprise that a healthy lifestyle can be beneficial in the transitional time of the menopause. Everyone experiences symptoms of the menopause differently, however Pilates for menopause can be a particularly effective natural method of relieving symptoms. Here are some of the most commonly noticed symptoms in menopausal women:
Although menopause is a natural process that doesn't necessarily need treatment, this doesn't mean you have to put up with the symptoms. There are a number of options available to help relieve the symptoms. The two different approaches are either natural or medicinal. Natural treatments often involve increased levels of exercises, Pilates is a highly recommended form of exercise for menopause relief. On the other hand one of the most common medicinal treatments include hormone replacement or medications that tackle the symptoms at hand.
Let's take a look at Pilates for menopause, and more specifically how it can help to relieve symptoms. Research has demonstrated in a variety of studies that Pilates is one of the best exercises you can do for menopause. This is due to the fact that Pilates combines a focus on exercise with breath control and a positive mindset. So, what are the benefits of Pilates?
Is Pilates good for menopause?
Research has indicated that Pilates is a great way to relieve the symptoms in premenopausal and menopausal women. The exercises are low impact meaning almost anyone can do it, however they’re still extremely effective. Not only does Pilates increase your balance and flexibility, it also helps to improve strength, control and promotes relaxation. This helps to reduce stress and increase your quality of sleep.
Hopefully this article has shared a better insight into Pilates and how it can help to alleviate some of the symptoms of the menopause. Reformer Retreats is a great event which will be particularly beneficial for anyone experiencing symptoms for menopause - over the course of the weekend there will be a variety of activities planned all with your wellness and relaxation in mind. ]]>Christmas is just around the corner so if you haven't already got your gifts together for your Pilates passionate loved ones or are all out of ideas, hopefully this list of Pilates gifts will give you a helping hand. In this list we cover everything a Pilates lover might need from equipment to clothing to a whole retreat dedicated to Pilates.
If you are looking to buy the perfect Pilates gift for a family member or friend, it might be a good idea to know what exactly Pilates is first. So, what is Pilates? It is a form of exercise that is classed as low impact and involves a range of movements that flow into each other. The reason why many people get hooked on Pilates is because it gives your body such increased movement, control and it helps to strengthen parts of the body that have become weakened through injury, age and under use. Pilates has a range of benefits which include:
Pilates mat
First on our list of Pilates gifts is a Pilates mat. Whether your loved one likes to attend a Pilates studio for their sessions or is happy to do their workout at home, a mat is a great gift for any lover of Pilates. The reason why this gift is so great is because it's suitable for all ability levels and is a key piece of equipment that helps to protect the back by creating a layer between the body and the floor. There are a range of mat options available to suit all budgets and they can come in a variety of colours and patterns allowing you to make the gift more tailored to suit the preferences of your friend or family member. A pilates mat is generally 10-15mm thick so unlike a yoga mat, it is cushioned and protects the spine in so many of the exercises, particularly the ones that include rolling.
Pilates socks
Next on our list of Pilates gifts for anyone who takes part in Pilates is Pilates socks. You may be wondering why special socks are needed for this form of exercise. The reason why Pilates socks are useful is because they can help you to stay in Pilates positions for longer and support you in your transition from one movement to another without slipping. This helps prevent falls, what makes these socks different is that they usually have silicone grip pads on the bottom to improve grip. Have a look on Amazon or Pilates-Mad.
Workout gear
Another great gift for any fitness enthusiast is workout gear, this is because anyone who regularly works out will love a new set of workout clothes to wear. With Pilates it is important to get the right kind of workout gear to ensure that the movements can still be done safely and without any restriction. Generally speaking, the top and bottoms should be fitted and not loose or baggy, some examples of good Pilates workout gear include slim fitting tops and gym leggings. If you have no idea what workout gear to buy for your Pilates lover friend, it might be a good idea to consider buying a gift card at leading sportswear retailers Sweaty Betty, Varley, lululemon.
Pilates bag
If you are unsure of what clothes size your loved one might wear or what equipment they might have, a safer option might be a Pilates bag. This gift is practical but thoughtful as it gives them somewhere to store and carry their equipment and clothing, combining style with functionality. Again, Sweaty Betty, lululemon, Arket or Nike have good options.
Pilates Retreat
If you think your loved one already has a large range of Pilates equipment or clothing, a completely unique option that they are sure to love is a Pilates retreat. This gives them the opportunity to attend a weekend retreat tailored to their passion for Pilates. Reformer Retreats is the UK’s leading luxury Reformer Pilates retreat.
Included in the weekend break is a 2 or 3 night stay at the stunning boutique partner hotel located on the coast. Meals are provided for during your stay as well as light bites and refreshments throughout. Most importantly there will be a number of mat classes and reformer sessions available to attend led by highly qualified and experienced classical Pilates teachers. The Pilates Retreat is the perfect Pilates gift with the added bonus of luxury. Designed to challenge and inspire attendees whilst allowing them to relax and recharge. As well as the Pilates classes, there will be a range of other activities available to participate in throughout the stay which includes meditation, spa treatments and wellness talks. The backdrop for this weekend is a panoramic view of a beautiful marine lake. To find out more click HERE.

]]>You’ve probably heard of Pilates, but have you ever heard of the Reformer? Today we are going to explore the different layers to Pilates and how classical equipment like the Reformer helps to enhance your Pilates practice. We will then talk you through what to expect from our luxury Pilates break in this Pilates Reformer Retreat guide.
The Reformer is a traditional piece of equipment that dates back to the time when Pilates first originated in the 1920s and is still a popular piece of equipment used today. The best way to describe how a Reformer looks if you haven't seen one before is a bed-like structure with springs, a sliding carriage, ropes and pulleys. Upon first glance, the reformer can seem intimidating but there's no need to be put off because after a few sessions guided by an expert teacher you will realise the versatility and effectiveness of this interesting piece of equipment.
The purpose of using the Reformer as part of your Pilates work is to focus on proper muscle engagement and core strength. The reformer helps to do this because the springs provide additional resistance. However, for a lighter level of resistance you can use less springs. The great part about this is that it makes the reformer an incredibly versatile piece of apparatus.
Most Pilates and fitness retreats do not offer Reformer classes which could be due to the size, weight and cost of the equipment. At Reformer Retreats we recognise the incredible benefits of this piece of equipment and wanted to make it a focal part of our weekend.
The purpose of our Pilates Reformer retreat is to enable attendees to get the most out of their stay with us. Therefore not only do we offer group mat classes and reformer classes, you can also book on to 1-1 reformer sessions with one of our expert classical Pilates teachers.
In our previous articles we have covered a number of the fantastic benefits of Pilates. More specifically we wanted to explore the benefits of Reformer Pilates which are as follows:
Another great element of Pilates and the reformer is that every class can be adapted to the level of the attendees. The Reformer adds an additional layer to Pilates which will challenge your body with extra resistance. Regardless of whether you are a beginner, intermediate or Pilates pro, the Reformer remains challenging for all.
We always recommend familiarising yourself with the Reformer before getting onto it. Furthermore it is important to have a fully comprehensive teacher to hand to assist you with operating the equipment, this ensures you are completing the movements properly and safely.
Now you know all about the Reformer, we wanted to share with you what you can expect from our Pilates Reformer Retreat weekend. Indulge yourself in a luxury weekend escape from your day to day life. The retreat is designed to challenge, inspire, recharge and relax with a variety of activities available to enhance your experience. Here are just a few activities included in the Pilates Reformer Retreat itinerary for our upcoming event:

]]>Pilates is a low impact style of exercise developed in the first half of the 20th century by Joseph Pilates. This form of exercise is not a fad and although it did fall out of fitness fashion in the 1980s it has remained a popular and go to exercise regime for almost 100 years - once you’re hooked you’re hooked. In this article we are going to explore all things Pilates and answer the question everyone is wondering, why is Pilates good for you?
It increases strength & flexibility
A great benefit of Pilates is that its low impact exercises are effective at building your strength and flexibility and it is known for its emphasis on creating a strong core. Improving your core strength can help to decrease back pain, hip pain and decrease pelvic floor dysfunction too.
It helps improve your posture
Another reason why Pilates is good for you is that it is a good way to improve your posture. Posture is the difference between weak and imbalanced muscles as well as headaches, back and shoulder pain. Pilates focuses on the alignment of the body's muscles and range of motion at the joints. By regularly exercising these areas through Pilates, your posture should begin to improve.
It decreases stress
Pilates has a big focus on control of breath and mind body connection. By improving your mindfulness you are able to regulate your nervous system better allowing you to take better control of your fight or flight response - it really is meditation for body and mind. Over time this helps in reducing stress.
It helps relieve symptoms of menopause
We cover this point in much more detail in a previous blog post called ‘symptoms for menopause, how Pilates can help relieve them’. The reason why Pilates can help to relieve menopausal symptoms is it reduces stress on joints, promotes relaxation, improves mood and enhances sleep. And provides the body with incredible discipline not just for the hour or two doing Pilates but your day to day movement too.
Reformer Retreats is a boutique retreat organiser that provides luxury Pilates breaks. Led by expert classical Pilates teachers there is so much to learn regardless of your experience. The weekend retreats are jam packed with Pilates sessions and relaxing activities that compliment each other perfectly so you get the best results from your stay. Some additional benefits of attending Reformer Retreats Pilates breaks include; meeting new and likeminded people, being inspired by what you learn, what you see, what you can do by the end of the weekend and learning more about your body and they way that it moves, wellness talks focusing on issues relevant to women in the peri/menopausal stage of life.
Generally speaking, health and fitness retreats are designed with your health and wellbeing at the forefront of all activities. There are all kinds of retreats to choose from such as high impact boot camps for weight loss, relaxing spa style retreats and low impact exercise retreats.
Staycations are becoming increasingly popular post lockdown with 28% of UK travellers saying they are more likely to choose a UK break than one abroad. The UK is the perfect place for a health and fitness retreat with its stunning coastline, extensive greenery and rolling hills. The only real downside of the UK is the unpredictability of the weather. However, a well planned retreat should have taken this into account when organising the retreat. Reformer Retreats have designed a luxury retreat in a boutique hotel with a variety of activities to suit all weather conditions. Included in the itinerary are spa treatments, pilates sessions, guided meditation and wellness talks.
There are a multitude of benefits of UK retreats, we’ve created this list of some of the main advantages of opting for a UK health and fitness retreat:
On the other hand, if you wanted to avoid the uncertainty of the weather you could opt for a retreat abroad. When booking a retreat abroad, often the retreat will last longer than a few days, more commonly you can expect it to last 5 days to a week. This is great if you are looking for a proper holiday. When it comes to retreats abroad, you need to consider travel expenses and with everything that happened with covid, the chances are you will now need to be double vaccinated and have proof of a negative test in order to visit another country. The problem with this is that it can take away the fun of it all and make the retreat that little bit less relaxing. Here are some benefits of travelling abroad for a health and fitness retreat:
Reformer Retreats is a specialist Pilates provider. All of the Pilates instructors are qualified, experienced and classically trained teachers. Every event is held in luxury accommodation with stunning scenery. The upcoming Pilates Retreat takes place at the Bliss Hotel in the North West with coastal views. Here is what you can expect from the next retreat:

Ah, the menopause. We all know it's coming, and we all have to experience it. Menopause is the period in a woman's life when menstruation ceases. It can happen in your 40s or 50s but the average age is 51. Most women experience the symptoms for menopause and dealing with them can be a challenge. This article aims to explore the symptoms for menopause and explain how Pliates helps to relieve them.
Every woman experiences menopause differently, we each have different symptoms. Some are severe, some go unnoticed, but either way there are some more predictable symptoms that are most commonly noticed.
During your menopausal transition, you may notice some changes in your period. One of the most normal changes is lighter and less frequent periods, this is due to your decreasing hormone levels. Some of the most common symptoms for menopause include:
Fortunately, although menopause is completely natural and does not need to be treated, there are a variety of treatment options available. The purpose of these treatments is to ease the menopausal transition symptoms. There are two main approaches you can take to menopausal treatment, either natural or medical. Some of the medical approaches include hormone replacement or prescription medications that address specific symptoms.
On the other hand, a natural treatment for the symptoms of menopause is exercise. One of the best exercises you can do for menopause is Pilates. Studies have shown that Pilates can help to relieve some of the symptoms of the menopause. The mixture of regular exercise and a positive mindset promoted by Pilates helps alleviate many of the symptoms such as mood swings, hot flushes, depression and sleeplessness.
The reason why Pilates does such a good job of relieving your menopausal symptoms is because the exercise itself was designed to strengthen our bodies and minds. Some key benefits of Pilates include:
Now that we have established the great benefits of Pilates and why it is so great at relieving menopausal symptoms, we wanted to discuss how a pilates retreat can help even more. Reformer Retreats has created a luxury Pilates retreat full of amazing activities that will help you to relieve the symptoms for menopause. These activities include:
A Pilates retreat is a great way to put some dedicated time aside to focus completely on your physical and mental wellness. A Pilates retreat means no distractions, therefore a chance to really relax and unwind. The combination of activities available will allow you to get the most out of your retreat and hopefully you will be able to see a difference straight away.
Both forms of exercise are similar in that they involve low impact movements, the key difference is that the focus and the results of yoga and Pilates can be different. So, with that being said let’s leap right into it.
Pilates originated around the time of World War 1 from the works of Joseph Pilates. The principles of Pilates are concentration, centring, control, breathing and flow. Pilates was used as a way to rehabilitate bedridden soldiers and worked by stretching, stabilising and strengthening muscles and working from a strong engagement of core muscles. It works the same way today. There are many benefits of participating in Pilates such as:
During a Pilates retreat you can expect to be provided with a number of Pilates sessions, some with equipment and some with simply a mat. Reformer Retreats specifically is a Pilates Retreat that is unique because it provides its guests with 2 reformer group sessions over the weekend with the option to have 1-1 reformer training with an expert classical instructor. The reformer is a piece of equipment unique to Pilates and invented by Joseph Pilates himself. The purpose of this equipment is to enhance full range motion and balancing out imbalances in your body. The great benefit of Reformer retreats is that it provides this exceptional equipment that is not often used by other Pilates holidays.
Yoga as a practice is based on ancient techniques dating back over 3,000 years ago in India, used as a method of creating a mind and body connection through meditation, breathing and movement. Yoga is considered to be not just a method of exercise but also a holistic approach to improving health and consciousness. There are a range of yoga styles around which involve different flows of movement. It is important to identify your fitness goal in order to choose the right yoga type to practise. Some of the benefits of Yoga include:
As you can see, the benefits of yoga and Pilates do overlap in places. You may now be wondering what to expect on a yoga retreat. As discussed, each yoga style is different but during a yoga retreat there will be a lot of sharing, connection and conversation between you and other participants. During a yoga retreat you can expect lots of yoga, relaxation activities and downtime.
Although we have established that some of the key benefits of the two forms of exercise are similar, there are some significant differences too. Here is a list of things to consider when deciding whether a yoga retreat or Pilates weekend retreat is right for you.
Yoga has a primary focus on spiritual intentions rooted in sacred traditions created to unite the body with the mind. This contrasts with Pilates which takes a more practical approach with the aim of improving strength, flexibility and posture through practical work outs. Pilates is still an excellent way to relax and connect your body and mind and requires no distractions for the best results. This is why a Pilates retreat can be beneficial because it provides you with dedicated time to focus on your body and how it moves.
Another key difference between yoga and Pilates is the equipment used. Yoga focuses on mat workouts primarily using minimal equipment to aid poses. The mat used for yoga tends to be thin for increased stability and balance. Pilates on the other hand tends to use a slightly thicker mat to improve comfort. Pilates uses a range of equipment as well as mats to enhance the results. Some of the equipment used includes the reformer, wall towers, wunda chairs, barrels and barres.
Another difference between yoga and Pilates is the poses and movements. This is what leads to different results of the two forms of exercise. Yoga poses generally are held for a longer period of time than Pilates poses. Pilates focuses on flow of movement from pose to pose. Also, Pilates uses breathing techniques as a way of effectively engaging your core muscles to encourage correct form. Yoga on the other hand uses breath as a big focus that relates to spiritual pursuits rather than a way of improvement movement.
So, there you have the key similarities and differences between a Yoga retreat and a Pilates Retreat. This article has demonstrated that although on the surface, Yoga and Pilates can seem the same, they are quite different in their approaches and results. Ultimately, in order to choose the best retreat for your needs you need to understand exactly what you want from the exercise.
Reformer Retreats includes a range of activities in addition to the Pilates sessions to give you the best results and relaxation possible. Expect pampering spa treatments, wellness talks, meditation, paddle boarding and amazing food with a plant based option.

]]>The first thing we are going to cover in this article is the fundamental principles of Pilates. Such as, where it all began and the benefits of Pilates for your health and wellbeing. Next we will cover what to expect at one of Reformer Retreats Pilates Holidays including an example of one of our upcoming Pilates Weekends itineraries
Pilates was developed in the first half of the twentieth century by Joseph Pilates. It was developed with a mixture of equipment and mat work movements designed to enhance stretching, advance strengthening and improve body alignment. In 1925 Joseph Pilates founded a studio in New York with his wife and taught students well into the 1960’s. The first modern book on Pilates was published and outlined the ‘six main principles of Pilates’. These principles are:
These fundamental principles of Pilates are crucial to achieving the best results. They highlight the importance of focusing your entire body to ensure smooth and controlled movements.
There are a range of benefits of participating in Pilates. A Pilates break can be even more advantageous because it provides you with the perfect environment to focus completely on Pilates without the distractions of day to day life. Here are some of the main benefits of a Reformer Retreats:
Before attending your Pilates break we suggest preparing your body so it is ready to adapt to the Pilates programme. There are a number of online beginners classes available, one we recommend is Pilates Works live online classes. This will allow you to get a good idea of some of the basic movements meaning you will be able to make the most of your Holiday experience. However, don’t feel alarmed if you don’t prepare because Reformer Retreats is led by Classical Pilates experts who will guide you through each movement.
Another element you may be wondering about is what to wear. This can be a stressful part of any event. But don’t worry we’re here to help. Based on our itinerary for the weekend we suggest bringing appropriate Pilates clothing. By this we mean clothing that will allow full body movement and flexibility. Remember that anything too baggy or loose may actually hinder movement particularly when using equipment. There are other activities available on the Reformer Retreats Pilates weekend such as paddle boarding, spa treatments and 3 course meals. Therefore we suggest bringing swimwear and some evening attire in case you fancy dressing up for the meals. The key to the Pilates holiday is relaxing so definitely pack plenty of comfortable outfits too.

On top of the amazing pilates sessions led by our expert instructors Sophie and Louise, there will be a mixture of other activities available at the event. As Reformer Retreats is a luxury experience, we wanted to go above and beyond other fitness retreats.
Between the pilates classes and meditation sessions, there will be a series of wellness talks available to attend. The topics covered include the menopause and life coaching. On top of that, for the adventure seekers- we are providing you with the opportunity to try stand up paddle boarding, don't worry all equipment is included as are the instructors.
Whilst you’re away you don’t need to worry about food and drinks either. Upon arrival you will be greeted with a welcome cocktail or mocktail followed by a three course meal. As part of the retreat we will provide 2 plant based lunches and three course evening meals every night of your stay. Light refreshments will also be provided throughout the weekend.
Upon arrival you will receive an essentials pack that will include your own mat, band, socks and water bottle. This way you do not have to worry about transporting your personal Pilates equipment to the event and can save more of your luggage space for clothes.
We suggest bringing clothes that you will feel comfortable in because after all this is a weekend of pampering, unwinding and relaxing. For the Pilates sessions it is always best to wear appropriate clothing such as gym leggings or shorts. You can also bring some outfits for the three course evening meal if you fancy dressing up.
So, now we have more or less covered everything you can expect from our Pilates Weekend. The question you may now be asking yourself is what makes Reformer Retreats different from the other Pilates retreats out there?
Reformer Retreats are unique because we go beyond your usual pilates weekend break that only involves mat sessions. We provide 2 reformer classes over the course of the weekend too. The reformer classes use the specialist reformer equipment which allow you to perform more specific, individualised movements. This is beneficial for strengthening your core and giving you a balanced, full body workout. Using the reformer in combination with mat classes will help you achieve maximum results.
Another reason why reformer retreats are different is because the reformer is rarely seen in any locations outside of London. Participating in our retreat means you get to try out the reformer equipment (if you haven't already) outside of London, in a much more relaxing setting, with the addition of some truly stunning views.
We hope this has enabled you to know more about Reformer Retreats and our boutique Pilates weekend. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to contact us which you can do via the form on our website. Our next retreat will be in September at our partners Hotel in Southport. ]]>A bootcamp workout is defined as a ‘short, intensive, and rigorous course of training’. The issue with a pilates bootcamp is that pilates involves a series of slow, carefully controlled movements that require a mind and body connection. This can be hard to achieve through any gruelling workout session. This means that a bootcamp style workout session would not be as effective.
Reformer Retreats have taken a step back from the idea of a pilates ‘bootcamp’ and instead created pilates events where you can sweat in style. Rather than heading down to a field to participate in a quick fire pilates class, we provide a 3 night stay at our blissful hotel where our sessions involve reformer equipment to maximise results.
We wanted you to get the most out of your pilates bootcamp alternative by including a series of activities that go beyond just pilates. During our pilates weekend you will have the option to attend wellness talks focusing on the menopause and life coaching. On top of that you can indulge in some spa treatments. For the the adventure seekers we will also be providing the option to try stand u paddle boarding. Finally, the whole break is catered for with plant based lunches across the Saturday and Sunday and 3 course evening meals every night of your stay.
Attending the Reformer Retreats pilates bootcamp alternative comes with a list of benefits. From physical improvements to better mental wellbeing. Our pilates retreat has been created with your relaxation, health and pleasure at the core purpose of all activities.

Reformer Retreats is unique in that it is one of the only Pilates retreats outside of London that integrates the Reformer equipment into the break. We offer 2 reformer classes over the weekend and 4 mat classes per person. Our sessions will have a small capacity allowing every individual to have dedicated time from our expert teachers. As well as our Pilates classes there will be sunrise and sunset meditation sessions where you will be guaranteed to experience a great sea view.
All of the Pilates sessions across the weekend are always led by our expert teachers Sophie and Louise. Both of the Reformer Retreats instructors are fully trained in the art of Classical Pilates, taught by second generation pilates teacher Kirk Smith. You can read more about the background of Sophie and Louise on the about us page on our website.
